Anomaly Scanner

A handheld display prop shaped like a fictional field instrument, with sculpted buttons and a readout-style window.

Concept illustration of the Anomaly Scanner, an Anachron design study. Not a photo of a manufactured product. Concept render — design not finalized

The Anomaly Scanner is a handheld display prop shaped like a fictional field instrument, with tactile-looking buttons and a window that suggests a readout.

The design idea

A tool you could imagine a survey team carrying: chunky grip, angled sensor head, worn-in labels. It is meant to be picked up and turned over in the hand, then set back on its stand.

What it is not

It does not scan, detect or measure anything. The first version under consideration has no electronics at all; any buttons would be sculpted details, not controls.

Help shape it

A handheld object costs more to make and ship than a desk piece. Is it worth it to you? Tell us through the Dispatch.

What we are trying to learn

  • Does a handheld object justify a higher price and shipping cost?
  • Would you display it on a stand or keep it in a case?
